He's on the Inside Not the Outside

All my life I have always looked to the sky, up above when talking about God. I think we all do it. We look to a God that is outside, away from us. In doing that we mentally detached ourselves from God. We may not do it on purpose but it sure does make it easier to live our lives as we see fit. When we think of a God that is watching us from a far. Maybe even over our shoulder, that disappears when do things that He does not like.

What I have learned on this journey is the complete opposite of what I thought I knew. I now know that God is within us, each of us. This became evident to me the moment I was 'saved' and filled with His Holy Spirit. Many of you already know my story but after months of daily prayer, worship and reading His word, I received my change (detailed in My Extraordinary Walk).

This experience was physical in the sense that I felt the change occur. But it was totally spiritual. Looking at me from the outside others may not have recognized what was going on. But for me, on the inside, it was unmistakable. I felt like I was totally reconstructed on the inside. And from that moment I have been able to feel my connection to the Lord. It's hard to explain but is something on the inside. It is as if my pilot light has been lit.

I believe that we all have this little spark within us. Which is our connection to the Lord. Now depending on how we live our lives, some of us dampen or smother this spark. But in others of us this spark turns into a full fledged fire. But I also believe that as long as we are alive this spark never goes completely out.

This is just an analogy, but fire needs oxygen and some type of fuel in order for it to burn. In the same way, the fire or spark within us needs to be fed some type of fuel. Are you feeding your spark or are you smothering it? Feeding your spark is simple. You feed it with prayer, worship, reading His word, meditating on the Lord, exercising your spiritual gifts, etc. In the same way you feed your body everyday throughout the day. You need to feed your spark to keep it strong.

So instead of looking up to the skies for God. Look inside, pay attention to what you feel. That inner voice, this inner spark and often how you feel are all connected. Tune into it, Nourish it and let it lead you. God is within us. We are connected to him and we are connected to each other.
