Draw Nigh

James 4:7-8

7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

To understand this verse you need to understand a couple of words. The first is 'submit'. Submit means to yield, to give in to surrender to a greater force. When it comes to God you have to first admit that God is greater, superior, on a higher level than we are. In order to submit to Him you have to trust and believe that He wants the best for you. That He has a plan and that you are a part of that plan.

Sometimes as human beings it is hard for us to submit, even to God. We are taught to be independent, to find our own way, to be our own person, to be a leader not a follower. We have our own thoughts and we make our own decisions. Which lead us to believe that we are in control of our own lives.

Despite that we cannot forget that we are also spiritual beings and there is a spiritual world around us. Full of good and bad influences just like in the physical world.

The verse above goes on to says that we can resist the enemy and his negative influences. It also says that when we do, the enemy will flee away from us. Which should empower us to know that we are not doomed by the enemy and his advances. We are stronger that we think we are and we do not have to fall for any of his tactics. So we must stand on the power that God has given us and resist him with all of our might.

The verse above also speaks about drawing nigh to God. To draw nigh means to get closer, to approach. You draw closer to God by seeking Him, To look for Him, to look for knowledge and understanding of Him. The easiest ways to do this is by reading the Holy Bible and praying. You can also do this by attending church. Gathering amongst other believers and learning from them. It's important that we seek Him. God is waiting for each of us to find Him.

We are not meant to live this life without Him. It is much easier once you have a personal relationship with Him. It is easier to hear from Him. Easier to be led by Him. So, draw nigh to Him. Submit to His will for your life. Choose Him, He's waiting.
