Psalm 91 King James Version (KJV)

The Psalm of Protection- explained

Recently, I see the mention of Psalm 91 a lot. Especially with all that is going on in the world right now, with the Corona Virus. This is a verse that we all need to meditate on. But in order for this word to be effective we have to understand what it means. Below I break down the full verse of Psalm 91, so that we not only understand it but we are able to believe it and decree it over our lives.

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

This verse is speaking to the person who lives in the secret place of the most High. In order live in the secret place, you would have to take the time to find it, or be close enough to that person to know where their secret place is. And abiding in the shadow of the Almighty again is another reference to being close to the one casting the shadow. Think about it, how close would someone need to be to you, to know your secret place and abide in your shadow. This verse is speaking to those close to God.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

You have to let the Lord know that He is your safe place and your place of protection. Speak to the Lord and believe what you are saying to Him. That He is exactly who He says that He is. Put all of your trust in Him.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

Be sure that He will keep you from harm that He will protect you from the Corona Virus. And believe that even if it touches you, that it will bring you no harm.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Know that God will hold you close to Him and keep you safe. I imagine a mother bird, with a baby bird under its wing. His truth shall be your protection. We all know that a shield is used to block the blows of your enemy and a buckler is a smaller, more mobile version of a shield. We are to use the knowledge of His truth to protect us. We have to believe His word.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

We will not be afraid. We will not let the horrors of the night or the attacks that come in the day cause us to fear. Do not be afraid of the Corona Virus!

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

We will not be afraid of things that we cannot see coming, or the things that we see causing destruction in the day light. We can't see this virus but we know that it has the potential to cause us harm, we see all day on the news what it is doing to others.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Many will fall around us, even close to us but it will not touch us because we have faith and believe that God will do exactly what his word says that He will do... protect those that are close to Him.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Open your eyes and look around and you will see how the wicked are punished.

9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

All because you have decided to make the Lord the place in which you live.

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

In habitation with the Lord, no evil will harm you. AND no plague will come into your home... that includes the Corona Virus.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

God will send His angels to protect you and keep you in all your ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

They will hold you up so that nothing can harm you. You will be able to walk around safely, not even stumbling on a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

You will be able to defeat the lions and snakes of life. Those things that are bigger and stronger that you and those things that are sneaky and wicked. You will be victorious.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

God is saying that because we love Him, He will deliver us from every affliction, the Corona Virus included. He will set us out of the reach of our enemies because we truly know Him and put Him first in our lives.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

When we call on God, He will respond to us. God will be with us during any trouble we face. He will rescue us and reward us.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

With all the days of my life I will live for Him and show Him His grace and mercy in the way I lived my life.

The key to receiving everything the word says is faith and believing it to be true. Believing it without a shadow of a doubt. If you believe it, it is already so. Believe...
