Have A Seat

Think about this...what it means when you tell a person to have a seat. Usually it is time for a serious conversation. You may have to tell that person something that you know they do not want to hear. You may want that person to hear you loud and clear, without any distractions. Or you may have some information that that person needs to know.

Either way it is usually a time when you ask someone to stop everything their doing. To pause everything else that they may have going on in life. Everything from what they are thinking at that moment, to what they are doing at that time, to where they are going and you don't even want them to think about what they were about to do. This is usually an interrution in their daily life and now their complete and only focus is you.

There are times in life when God will sit you down. Times when He will separate you from everything that has your attention. He may separate you from friends and family, not permanently but just long enough to get your attention. He may cause projects to fail. He may even disrupt your mind where the only thing you can focus on is Him.

During these times, don't be so quick to rush back into life. Take the time to access what you have going on around you and what God may be trying to tell you. Maybe you are working outside of His will for your life. Maybe you are too busy and just not giving Him any time. Maybe there is something that He is trying to get you to do. When He puts the brakes on the things around you, He is telling you to sit down. Stop and listen, it's the only way you will know what He is saying to you.

Let God lead, life will go much more smoothly. You won't hit the brick walls and stumbling blocks that come from doing things, that He never wanted you to do in the first place. He wants to guide us through this life. Let Him show you which way He wants you to go. Allow Him to speak to you and teach you. He wants to be that involved in our lives. We were never meant to live and go through this life alone.

Pay attention to those moments, where God interrupts your life. Those moments where He is asking you to have a seat. Talk to Him, ask Him, what are You trying to tell me, Lord? and listen...with your ears and your heart.

Try God today, get into His word and develop a prayer life, it's just that simple.

There is a saying that I love,

"Don't let the noise of the world, keep you from hearing the voice of the Lord."

Sometimes you have to find a quiet place away from distractions,

Mark 6:31 31And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Romans 12:2 2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

What happened when Peter was distracted,

Matthew 14:28-31 28And Peter answered him and said, LORD, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, LORD, save me. 31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Follow the example of Mary instead of Martha (who was distracted by her chores)

Luke 10:38-42
