Christmas [ˈkrisməs]

It's that time of year again. The lights, the shopping, the traffic and little red buckets with bells ringing in front of every store. The planning, the excitement and the anticipation. The food, the gifts, family and friends. Joy, laughter and good cheer all around.

These are all the things that are typical of this season. But what does Christmas really mean? Christmas is defined as a yearly festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, held on December 25th (in Western Countries). The original Christmas was a 'Christ Mass', a church gathering held to celebrate Jesus.

We celebrate the birth of Jesus because His birth fulfilled Old Testament prophecy (Is 7:14). The birth, life and death of Jesus is part of the core values of the Christian faith. It is because of Jesus that we all have the right to eternal life. So we celebrate His birth in remembrance of all He has done for us.

With that in mind, this season is about love. Showing love, sharing love and experiencing love with those around us. Some show love by giving gifts to their loved ones. Others by giving to the less fortunate. This is a time set aside to do whatever you feel you can do to show love to those around you. Whether it is exchanging gifts, a kind word or even sharing a smile.

Even non- Christians get in on this season of giving. Remember God is love. And somehow giving gifts creates and atmosphere of love and positivity that can be felt. This season is not about Santa Claus, reindeer or the north pole. It's about love and blessing those around you.

If you can remember the reason for the season, which is Jesus Christ. If you can hold onto the spirit of this season in all you do. And if you keep Jesus Christ on your mind and in your heart. This season will maintain it's true meaning and love will abound. Isn't that what life is about? To show, share and experience love.

As a Christian we should do this every day, but Christmas is just a season where everyone can participate. Make sure you share love during this season.

Isaiah 7:1414Therefore the LORD himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Romans 5:88But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Luke 2:1111For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the LORD.

Hebrews 5:99And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Romans 14:5-6 5One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the LORD; and he that regardeth not the day, to the LORD he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the LORD, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the LORD he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
