I am the type of person that loves to open up my screen doors and windows to let fresh air in. If the weather permits this is something that I do every morning. There is something about letting the breeze of a new day circulate throughout the house. Out with the old and in with the new, it is really refreshing.
Even though I would love to, I cannot leave my windows open all night long. I know that I am protected. I have two grown men in my house that would do everything in their power to keep me safe. Even more than that I know that God provides protection over me and my home. But the reality is that the world we live in and the people around us don't always think like we do. An open window can be really inviting to someone with negative intentions.
In the same way that there are doors and windows in the physical world. There are doors and windows in the spiritual. Some are meant for good and some are meant for evil. But the good news is that we are the gatekeepers. Of course God has the final say but through free will we control which doors are opened and which doors stay closed. But if we are not careful or knowledgeable we can open doors and allow things into our lives that are detrimental.
Think about it, when we worship God, praise Him and listen to certain music, it creates an atmosphere that allows Him to come in. Where we can feel his presence and experience Him. Prayer can do this too. When we do these things, it is like opening a door and telling Him that He is welcome here. There is nothing else like it.
The flip side of this is, that if we are not careful of the music we listen to, the things we watch on TV, the things we participate in, the people that we are around and even the places we go. We can open doors, portals and invite for even more menacing things to come into our lives. The key is being aware of your surroundings in the physical and in the spiritual. And remember we have control over the atmosphere and the environment around us. Remember be very careful of who and what you invite into your life.
