Obedience (əˈbēdēəns)

Today the Biblical Dictionary continues with the word, 'obedience'. For some reason a lot of people have a problem with the word obey. We are so independent minded that we do not believe that we have to submit to any one. But it something that we do everyday. A wife should be obedient to husband. We should be obedient on our jobs. Children should be obedient to their parents. And we should all be obedient to the laws of the country we live in. Obedience is a word that can be applied to many aspects of life.

Some women remove it from their wedding vows. If you can't be obedient to your husband who should be the head of the household, how can you ever be obedient to God as the head of your life? Obedience is basic principal of the Christian religion. We give up our own will for HIs. Obedience should be part of the character of every Christian.

Obedience is defined as compliance with an order, request or a law. It is also defined as submission to another's authority. Where a person yields to the instructions and orders given by an authority figure. Obedience gives life structure. The government with all of its rules and laws is based on it.

In a nutshell the biblical definition of obedience is to obey God. We see a lot of Christians who are obedient to their church and their religion. These Christians would get an A+ on attendance, finances and dress code but are not obedient to God in their every day life. I lived many years like that.

As A true Christian we must live by he word of God. We have to accept it and respect it as true and let it govern our lives. This involves knowing the word of God and living a life that lines up with it. It also involves hearing the voice of God and following it. Especially when you don't understand who, what, when, where, why and how. Just be obedient and let God take care of the rest.

God gives us the choice to let Him be the head of our lives. It's all up to us whether we obey Him or not. Obedience to God leads to His blessings and His promises for our lives. Disobedience to God leads to being cursed, judgement and death.

Just like sheep are obedient to their shepherd. They trust him to protect them, keep them safe, supply all their needs and they follow him where ever he leads them. God wants us to trust and have faith in Him the same way. All the direction we need is in His word. Read it, live it and be obedient to it. The choice is yours.

1 Samuel 15:2222And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Deuteronomy 5:3333Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

John 14:2323Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Deuteronomy 28:11And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

James 1:2222But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
